BTS | BASE TRANSCEIVER STATION DESIGN & NETWORK SOLUTIONS

BTS | Base Transceiver Station Design and Network Solutions Malaysia

Base Transceiver Stations facilitate wireless communication between a cellular device and network. A Base Transceiver Station consists of the following: Antennas that relay radio message, Transceivers, Duplexers, and Amplifiers. The antenna provides network solutions by conveying radio message. A network may be any wireless technology such as Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), Worldwide Interoperability for Mobile Communications (WiMAX), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA).

The subscriber devices include mobile phones and other cellular devices. However, a BTS is only associated with mobile telecommunications technology. An entire base station is thus not a BTS. Duplexers within the BTS are used to separate sending and receiving signals to/from the Antenna.
As the name suggests, a combiner, on the other hand, combines receiving signals so that they can be sent out through a single Antenna. The combiner thus helps in the reduction of the number of Antennas used by the Base Transceiver station. This is essential for efficiency. The Power Amplifiers (PA) amplifies the receiving signal within the BTS. A Base Transceiver Station is part of a cellular network and has devices for encryption and decryption of antennas, spectrum filtering equipment, antennas, and transceivers (TRX) among others.

A BTS has multiple transceivers to serve varying frequencies and sectors. It also has an Antenna for transmission of signals to other entities. The BTS equipment is housed to protect the telecommunication equipment from extreme external conditions such as dust, corrosion, rust, or even theft. The shelter has an air conditioner to provide cooling. The BTS equipment generates a lot of heat. The housing has a battery bank for electrical power supply. The battery bank also has security lights. Maintaining the specified temperature level is essential to prolong the shelf life of the Base Transceiver Station. The BTS equipment is usually handled by trained personnel to provide the set network conditions.

The energy demand for the BTS equipment depends on the network specifications and solutions to be met. Base Station Controller does the control functions for Base Transceiver Stations. The BSC is a combination of software and hardware devices. For example, the Base Station Controller enables call setup and termination.

The BTS also has an Alarm extension system that registers working status alarms of various units within the BTS. The system subsequently registers them to operations and maintenance monitoring stations. The alarm extension system role in network solutions cannot be overstated.
