DAS – DISTRIBUTION ANTENNA SYSTEM

DAS – Distribution Antenna System Malaysia

Distribution Antenna System is a critical part of both carrier cellular networks and enterprise infrastructure. In a simplified form, a distribution Antenna System improves voice and data connectivity for end users by sending and receiving signals on a carrier’s licensed frequencies. Through direct access to a carrier’s core network, cellular devices receive boosted signal from the DAS antenna systems situated inside a given area. The performance of a distributed Antenna system depends on the technology applied. The performance of a Distribution Antenna System is measured in terms of coverage and capacity.

DAS are utilized when a need arises to boosts mobile signal coverage inside large buildings and venues. Indoor DAS systems are called iDAS and boosts cell phone signal coverage inside venues such as stadiums, high-rise office buildings, and convention centers. On the other hand, oDas are outdoor Distribution Antenna System that boosts cellular connections in open spaces, such as open fields. Distribution Antenna Systems have inbuilt automated monitoring systems to maintain optimal performance and allow timely detection of potential problems.

Cellular Broadband Traffic in indoors has been on a rapid increase. Complaints regarding coverage issues are widespread, both indoors and outdoors related complaints. Distribution Antenna Systems, therefore, offer the much-needed solution to such issues. A Distribution Antenna System may be either Low Power DAS (LP) or High Power DAS (HP). They vary regarding Radio Frequency (RF) power available per band. Distributed Antenna System boosts mobile signal coverage for 2G, 3G, 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution).

With improved technology, Distributed Antenna Systems have improved in terms of coverage and range. DAS systems are now far much easier to plan and manage. They also offer multisystem support, which is very vital. DAS systems such as CrossFire are easy to plugin and provide convenience in installation and maintenance. They also have integrated self-diagnostic tools and have multiple external System Interfaces. The distributed Antenna Systems also have capabilities All-Digital solutions. Due to the features, the DAS systems are economical, ultimately saving capital and operational costs.

Distributed Antenna Systems support thousands of cellular devices simultaneously. They are flexible and upgradable for future technologies. Highly flexible MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) technology in a Distributed Antenna System increases throughput by over 60%. The majority of mobile carriers test passive DAS sections using ‘In-Service Power Levels’. With the advancement in technology, small cells are now being used as an alternative to Distributed Antenna Systems. Small cells generate a high-quality network by creating a tunnel back to the carriers’ network over a standard internet connection. Small cells cover about 5,000 to 15000 square feet, a relatively small area compared to coverage reached by Distributed Antenna Systems.
